Women in Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) Award

Purpose of the award

Innovation has been placed at the heart of the Europe 2020 strategy, as has been gender. A recent COST initiative has been started to promote a more equitable representation of women in the world of innovation and research (www.genderste.eu).

The management committee of the IC1301 COST action has proposed and approved the award as a first initiative to encourage and sustain women, especially young researchers, to actively participate in emerging technology research fields, as the Wireless Power Transfer.

The award will consist of recognizing and providing financial assistance to women researchers who show promise and interest in pursuing novel research results in the area of Wireless Power Transfer to participate to the IC1301 WiPE COST meetings and/or training schools.

Award

The IC1301 COST action will sponsor the travel of the winner to one of its meetings, workshops or training schools: this includes the trip, hotel, meals and necessary local transportation. The awards will be advertised on the COST action website (www.cost-ic1301.org) and in the bi-monthly newsletter.

There will be two possibilities per year, one for each semester.

Conditions

  1. The applicant must be of female gender.
  2. The applicant should actively pursuing, on a full time basis at an accredited institution of higher learning, studies and research or thesis related activities in the field of theory or applications of near- and far-field wirelesspower transfer or technologies that have potential to be exploited in the WPT technology. The applicant could also be from a R&D division of a company or from public or private research centers, where WPT research is clearly pursued. It is expected that the applicant will be engaged in such topics for at least 6 months, following the award.
  3. The award is for the sole use of the women winner.
  4. There is no limit to the number of applicants from one institution.
  5. Applicants are permitted to compete for the award more than once. Any one applicant will be awarded one time only.
  6. Applications for the Awards for the first semester must be submitted no later than February 20th. Applications for the Awards for the second semester must be submitted not later than July 20th.

Eligibility

  1. Applicant must be or have been enrolled in a B.S./B.A. or an MS or Ph.D. program as a full-time student in engineering, applied physics, computer science or other appropriate field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  2. Research work must clearly be in the WPT area.
  3. This award is open to women researchers from across the world. There are no restrictions as to citizenship of the applicant but the location of the institution where the research is pursued should be in one of the European Union Countries.

Applications submissions

  • Applicant should electronically submit to the address of Prof. Alessandra Costanzo (alessandra.costanzo@unibo.it).
  • Her generalities and a contact email address for notifications.
  • A brief curriculum and a description of the project/idea that she has/or intend to develop in the field of WPT and related disciplines.
  • A self declaration of propriety of the results proposed.
  • Eventual list of published or submitted papers.

Decision will be based on the:

  1. Curriculum evaluation.
  2. Originality, and innovation characteristic of the pursued research.

The award will be decided by a committee composed by the Cost Action General Chair and four members of the Management Committee (MC) and will be publicized on the COST action website. The winner will be communicate also through email. The winner grant to participate to the COST initiatives should be used within one year after the decision, except for the last year (2017) of COST WIPE action (should be spent up to the last meeting).

Award Winner Responsibilities

  1. The award winner provides: the research title and abstract, affiliation, eventual supervisor(s) name(s) and e-mail address(es).
  2. The award winner will present the results of her research during the meeting/training school that she will be supported to attend.
